making faces :: quick peek [guerlain rouge automatique shine]

a new guerlain lipstick formula is always a good reason for a girl to get excited. how kind of them to put so much effort into making us all happy. their rouge g formula is spectacular and offers a great range of shades that one could wear every day [although they've been getting a little more daring lately]. last year, they introduced the slightly more affordable rouge automatique formula, which was a little lighter and had a splashier palette. this year, they bring us rouge automatique shine, a sheerer version of the regular rouge automatique with lots of shine and sparkle.

i grabbed the opportunity to swatch most of the shades this weekend while i was strolling through the city and my wallet sincerely wishes i hadn't. luckily, these are a permanent addition to the guerlain line up, so that we don't all have to rush drooling to our local guerlain counters. although we might. well, i might. self-control isn't a big thing with me when it comes to lipstick or music.

although i haven't had the opportunity to try these out over several hours [yet], they remind me a great deal of the rouge bunny rouge succulence of dew semi-sheer lipsticks. to that end, i'd expect them to be moisturising but not extremely long-lasting.

there are twelve shades included in the launch [hey, isn't that the same number that armani just launched?] and there's a pretty good variety of browns, corals, pinks, reds and plums. as you might expect from semi-sheer lipsticks, the lighter colours are sheerest, but the truth is that virtually all of them have pretty good pigmentation.

a lot of people have expressed some reservations about the fact that the formula is described as "shimmery", which often means very frosty. i promise, these are not like traditional frosts at all. yes, they have shimmer, but they're not frosty. they sparkle in the light, but the appearance is very wet and juicy.

again, i'm sure i'll have more to say once i have the opportunity [and the budget] to purchase a couple of these, but i thought i'd share some swatches with you. these were taken under less than ideal lighting conditions, so you really don't get a sense of the shimmer and shine, but the colours are fairly accurate.

left column [top to bottom] :: pour troubler, rose imperiale, mi-mai right column [excluding the two you can barely see on top] :: rose pompon, a la parisienne, rouge de damas

left column [top to bottom] :: pour troubler, rose imperiale right column :: pamplune, pao rosa, rose pompon, a la parisienne
missing from the selection are: sous le vent and vague souvenir [both browns], jardin de bagatelle [soft pink that i couldn't get to show against my skin] and extrait de rose [cool fuchsia-pink]. although i believe that there is something in here for everybody, the colours do tend to lean a little cool.

best bets :: pao rosa [burgundy berry with incredible depth], rose imperiale [check how it shifts from pink to coral!], pour troubler [brilliant, summery cherry red]

meh :: jardin de bagatelle [there is such a thing as too sheer]
